2025-2026 SLHS Theatre POPS Scholarship Application
The SLHS Theatre Scholarship program was created to provide students with financial assistance to pursue additional opportunities to enrich their education in the performing arts.
WHO CAN APPLY? Any student – cast, crew or pit - that has been an active participant in the 2025-2026 SLHS theatre program may apply. Scholarship awards are intended to be used for any arts-related activity, including, but not limited to, music or vocal lessons, tickets for theatre or music performances, etc.
HOW MANY SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AWARDED?
The scholarships will be awarded in the form of a check. Five scholarships will be awarded as follows:
HOW DO I APPLY?
Essays do not need to be one size fits all. Don’t be afraid to showcase your personality and creativity!
HOW WILL THE ESSAYS BE JUDGED?
ALL scholarship essays will be judged by three people not affiliated with the SLHS Theatre program. Scholarship essays will be scored based on the following criteria:
Scholarships will be awarded at the Theatre Gala on May 16th! Good luck!

The scholarships will be awarded in the form of a check. Five scholarships will be awarded as follows:
- Seniors - One $500 scholarship award
- Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen – One $200 scholarship award for each class
- Wildcard - One $200 wildcard scholarship will be awarded to the student in any grade that has the highest score, out of all submissions, not already awarded a scholarship this year
HOW DO I APPLY?
- Write an essay in 1,000 words or less using the following prompt:
Essays do not need to be one size fits all. Don’t be afraid to showcase your personality and creativity!
- Include ONLY your student number on your essay and save the essay as a PDF.
- Access the slhstheatre.com website. The scholarship portal is on the “home” page of the theatre website, scroll down to the POPS section or click on the POPS drop down menu. Include your name, graduation year, and student ID in the fields provided.
- Submit the PDF of your essay through the website scholarship portal.
- You should receive a confirmation email after your essay is submitted.
HOW WILL THE ESSAYS BE JUDGED?
ALL scholarship essays will be judged by three people not affiliated with the SLHS Theatre program. Scholarship essays will be scored based on the following criteria:
- Purpose and support – How well does the essay address the prompt as stated?
- Organization and logic – Is the essay written with a clear, organized and focused structure?
- Writing skills and mechanics – Does the essay exhibit proper use of grammar, punctuation, and spelling?
- Voice – Did the student bring their response to life in a creative and compelling way?
