A hilarious, exuberant celebration of love, HEAD OVER HEELS follows the escapades of a royal family on an outrageous journey to save their beloved home from extinction. The kingdom is in peace as long as it is controlled by a mysterious phenomenon called "The Beat". A prophecy foretells events that will happen and cause the kingdom to lose "The Beat". The King's eldest daughter must find a suitor, but no groom. The youngest daughter will take a liar as her partner. The King will begin an affair with his wife. And finally, the King will meet and make way for a better king. Not wanting to lose his kingdom or "The Beat", the King takes everyone on a road trip. sIf the king's oldest daughter doesn't find a suitor, the kingdom risks peril by losing "The Beat". The family will do anything to save their kingdom, but eventually learn that the only way to keep it alive is to look within their own hearts. Based on The Countess of Pembroke's Arcadia by Sir Philip Sidney, a 16th century romance this jukebox music turns up this story to an 11.

CHARACTERS

Basilius - King of Arcadia. A hothead, but not a despot. Blindly thinks Arcadia is doing great under his masculine rule, which will be sorely tested during the course of the show.
Gynecia - Queen of Arcadia. Like any longstanding spouse, knows how to get her way with her husband when push comes to shove. Pamela - Basilius and Gynecia's older daughter. Confident and obsessed with her appearance. Known to be the most beautiful bachelorette throughout Arcadia. Philoclea - Basilius and Gynecia's younger daughter. Shy and a "good girl", she yearns to follow her heart rather than obey her father's orders. |
Dametas - The King’s viceroy; father to Mopsa. A widower, he is more concerned with the prophecy than the King.
Mopsa - Handmaiden to Pamela. Warm, skeptical. Growing up without a mother has made her wise beyond her years about everyone and everything. Musidorus - A young shepherd who is in love with Philoclea. Pythio - The Oracle; powerful, mysterious. Demanding. Great sense of humor--can see through everyone--they are the Oracle of Delphi, after all. Ensemble - Unique, charismatic individuals to inhabit the kingdom of Arcadia. |
